The All School Reunion Committee is anxiously putting the final touches on the big event! The group is now meeting weekly to ensure everything is covered that needs to be done. They have worked many hours to ensure everyone has a great time with their former classmates. You do not want to miss out on the weekend and all that has been planned!

Dust Bowl Riders will be hosting their annual Brian Lamberson Memorial Scholarship Motorcycle Rally this Saturday, June 13. Barb’s Den is the locale again this year, at 109 East Sixth in Hugoton. Riders can register from noon to 2:00 p.m. The run will leave from Barb’s at 2:00 p.m.

Bring your motorcyle, register for door prizes, a 50/50 pot and maybe even the $1000 first place prize! There will also be auction items at the rally.

This year’s barbecue dinner will be catered by Oklahoma Smoke. The run this year is in memory of Brian Lamberson, Norman “Stomp” Traver, Jim Shaddix, Butch Young, Carol Campbell, Bea Johnson and Kaylee Norton.

Governor declares June Dairy Month

Kansas is becoming known around the country as the dairy frontier.  The industry is continuing to experience exponential growth, rising by 6.1 percent in 2014, making Kansas one of the fastest growing dairy states in the United States. Showing appreciation for the hardworking dairymen and women who toil 365 days a year to provide wholesome and nutritious dairy products, Governor Sam Brownback has declared June as Kansas Dairy Month.

The meeting of the hospital board was called to order Monday, June 1, 2015, at 5:30 p.m. in the Pioneer Manor conference room.

Present were board members Joyce Baughman, Benny Cabrera, Milton Gillespie, Kirk Heger and Dean Van Horn. Patty Lahey and Keith Rome were absent. Others present were hospital/nursing home Administrator Linda Stalcup, Chief Financial Officer Dave Piper, Director of Nursing/Stevens County Hospital Dawn Maas, Director of Nursing/Pioneer Manor Jennifer Featherston, Clinic Director Stacy Helget, Registered Health Information Technician Jessica Reinerio, Dr. Samer Al-Hashmi “Dr. Sam”, Public Relations/Risk Management respresentative Alisha Esarey and Hermes reporter Wilma Bartel.

The amended minutes of the last meeting and the current agenda were approved unanimously.

Area boasts many State bound athletes

The Hugoton High School Class of 2015 graduated Saturday, May 16, in Hugoton. Music was provided by the high school band directed by Ms. amy Freeman. The senior class choir representatives provided music with Director Trevor Waechter and pianist Ms. Angela Heger. Salutatory remarks were given by Kathryn Weaver and Valedictory remarks by Lauren Fox. Mrs. Chelle Leininger was in charge of awards and honors recognition. HHS Principal Mr. Jon Girodat presented the Class and Mr. Don Beesley, president of the board of education, assisted by school board members, accepted the class and awarded the diplomas. Lois Watson is named Super Mom for 2015

Hopefully every mother in Hugoton had a wonderful Mother’s Day this past
Sunday. Lois Watson may have had one of the best, as she is The Hugoton Hermes’ Super Mom 2015! Lois is the mother of Judy Zordel, Fritz Goebel and the late Andree Catlin. Lois has seven grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She won the drawing at White’s Foodliner, where she received a $25 gift card.
