This year lots of activities are happening in Hugoton, July 4 and 5.
Friday is the Fourth of July and Hugoton will be celebrating with the
Annual Park Day!
The All School Reunion is taking place both days this year. Registration begins at the High School Cafeteria Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. for the reunion. Reunion activities start with check-in and bracelet pick up and then meet and greet with drinks and snacks.
Dueling Pianos will be Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the HHS Auditorium. Saturday the reunion activities start at 10:00 a.m. with a school tour followed by registration and meet and greet. Class pictures start at 1:00 p.m., and end at 5:00 p.m. Oklahoma Smoke BBQ will be providing a dinner for the Classes 1940-1969 starting at 5:00 p.m., and for Classes 1970-2025 at 6:30 p.m. The Big Fireworks Display is being set off this year at dark Saturday, July 5 in conjunction with the All School Reunion!!
Hugoton’s Annual Fourth of July Park Day will kick-off at 8:30 a.m. Friday, July 4 with the registration for the Little Miss / Mr. Hugoton Pageant. The registration and Opening Ceremonies will take place in the northeast corner of the City Park at 8:45 a.m..
At 8:45 a.m. Friday the official Opening Ceremonies start with Boy Scout Troops presenting the Colors and leading all in the Pledge of
Allegiance. HHS Show Choir will perform followed by Pastor Chris Stanfield from Bethel Friends Church delivering the prayer.
The Little Miss/Mr. Hugoton pageant will follow the opening ceremonies at approximately 9:00 a.m. and is sponsored by Flatlanders Farm and Home + Grocery of Hugoton.
The popular Turtle Race, sponsored by SWFAS, will start off all the other events at exactly 9:00 a.m. on the north side of the park. The rest of the activities will follow upon completion of the activity that is scheduled before it. These include the Frog Jump @9:30 sponsored by SWFAS; Sack Races @10:00 sponsored by CSB; Sour Candy Challenge @10:20 sponsored by Rock Bottom Addiction Services – Arick Miller; Egg Toss @10:30 sponsored by Wolters Construction; Hot Pepper Eating Contest @11:00 sponsored by Rock Bottom Addiction Services – Arick Miller.
You can not forget the Rotary Duck Races at 12 noon in Canal Street. Be sure to purchase those lucky ducks before the race begins from a
Hugoton Rotary member.
Many events will be taking place all day long. On the southwest corner of the park will be the Dunk Tank; northeast corner Stevens County Fire Department will have a Show and Tell; southeast corner will be the Back Seat Driver sponsored by the Stevens County Sheriff’s Department; and don’t miss the Large Inflatables “Billy” the
Mechanical Bull and Wipeout! There will be mini golf, ring toss, a car raffle, cake walk, corn hole, and so much more!
There will be numerous booths and concessions all around the park. Some include items to keep you from getting hungry or thirsty. There will be lemonade, It’s Tastier in KS baked goods, Dubai chocolate strawberry bar, homemade pies, kettle corn, sweet roasted corn, smoothies, ice chest tea, sugar cookies, free water, bunuelos, chicharones in a bag, lemonade bar, hamburgers,walking tacos, dirty soda, aguas frescas, beef jerky, tortas, corditas, organic coffee, bake sale, Mexican snacks, BBQ, hotdogs, Birria street tacos, brisket nachos, Tommy Gun burgers, South African desserts, and smoked ribs, just to name a few!
Three places are selling fireworks this year:
Assembly of God Church, Arick Miller and Dettra Crawford.
There will also be booths offering you some great gifts like wooden trout custom woodworks, hairbows and accessories, crocheted items, bodycare, stickers, candles, homemade goods, handmade jewelry, natural skin care products, face painting by HHS junior prom for a fundraiser, permanent jewelry, homemade pens, name badge holders, keychains, homemade handbags, and boutique apparel and accessories. There is something for Everyone at Park Day in Hugoton!!!
For the Fireworks
Saturday, spectators are allowed to sit in their cars, bring chairs or sit in the Hugoton High School stands. There will be a concession stand at the football stadium opening at 9:00 p.m. The new Special Effects Fireworks by Victory Pyrotechnics are expected to start around 10:00 p.m. It is suggested for the audience to arrive around 8:15.
There will be choreographed pyrotechnics and Multi Shot Cakes. Enjoy IN-SYNC music while watching the fireworks by downloading the PyroCast App. Type in show code SCJB, choose the music in-sync with the show and sit back and enjoy!!
For public safety, no alcohol may be brought on to USD 210 property or Hugoton City Park.
