Weekend promises to be eventful

This weekend is shaping up to be a very eventful one!

Thursday evening, October 8, head over to the Stevens County Fairgrounds for the annual HHS Homecoming Bonfire at 8:30 p.m. Carry on with Homecoming activities Friday afternoon at 2:45 p.m. with the parade and pep rally on Main Street. After you’re full of school spirit, get over to the football field parking lot, where the Stevens County Sheriff’s Department will be hosting a tailgate party with hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and water. Then you can walk right through the gate for free, as Citizens State Bank has bought out the game! The 2015 Fall Homecoming Queen will be crowned at 6:00 p.m., followed by the game against Southwestern Heights at 7:00 p.m.

If you wake up feeling crafty Saturday, visit the Senior Center starting at 8:30 a.m. for their monthly Sew All Day! Stick around for a potluck at 6:00 p.m., and a dance from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Bob Walters will provide live music.

In case you’d prefer sitting to dancing, just go down to the Memorial Hall around 6:15 p.m. to play Basket Bingo with the Hugoton Lions! Games will start at 7:00 p.m. There will be 15 games and five special games. Tons of great prize baskets are featured, as well as lots of fun, visiting and Bingo!

Have you been craving a little sweet music during your weekend? Then be sure to catch Captivating Keyboards at the United Methodist Church, at 816 Main in Hugoton, beginning at 7:00 p.m. If you can’t make it Saturday night, you can also see them perform Sunday evening at the Hugoton Middle School Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. Free will donations will be gratefully accepted at both concerts.

In case all those activities leave you a little tuckered out and you don’t feel like making Sunday dinner, don’t worry! Sunday, October 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., you can eat delicious homemade chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, hot rolls, and a huge selection of desserts! Free will donations will help local high schooler Jessica Harper travel to London, England to dance with the National Dance Alliance in the New Year’s Day Parade.
