Area boasts many State bound athletes

The Hermes’ coverage area includes Hugoton, Moscow and Rolla, and numerous high school athletes will be heading to State competition this coming week and weekend.

Moscow’s baseball team will play in Great Bend Thursday, May 28 at 6:30 p.m. against Oxford. Moscow High School baseball team members include Amir Granillo, Brock Brazeal, Jesse Stuckey, Javier Marquez, Freddy Gonzalez, Zac Slemp, Ivan Enns, David Miramontes, Jalen Shaddix, Alexis Manriquez, Tad Stuckey, Brice Valdez and Alex Pierson. The team is coached by Ernie Castillo and Rees McKinney.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association announced this week that due to predictions of possible inclement weather, the State baseball games will be played in a rolling format. The first game will start at 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning as scheduled, but once a game is completed the field will be prepared, each team will have a maximum ten minute warmup on the field and the game will begin. Some games may start before the published time on the bracket. For the semi-final games Friday, May 29, games will begin one hour before the published time, at 10:00 a.m., and will again be played in a rolling format. *If there is impending weather, the championship game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the second semi-final game is complete. The third place game would not be played, teams will both receive third place medals and a trophy.* Please check KSHSAA’s Web site here for up-to-date information.

Track and field athletes from Hugoton, Moscow and Rolla High School will compete at Cessna Stadium, at 21st and Hillside in Wichita, this Friday and Saturday, May 29-30. Competition will begin with the 3200 Meter finals for 1A, 2A and 3A at 7:45 a.m. Friday, May 29. A complete schedule for the 2015 KSHSAA Track and Field Meet is available here. Athletes representing Hugoton High School are Jack Stalcup, Jalen Rosales, Sarah Johnson, Katy Heger, Katie Weaver, Maria Martinez, Dallie Hoskinson, Mitchell Hamlin, Tony Kinser, Wade Heger, Pedro Ordonez, Reed Rome, Zack Littell, Issac Castro, Miguel Martinez, Edgar Avalos, Brad Hemann, Taylor Fiss and Jahaziel Garcia. Moscow High School Track Team State qualifiers are Kelsi Mueller, Kaitlyn Dobie, Maria Cecenas, Morgan Robson, Alexis Fisher and Brice Valdez. Rolla High School athletes Ellie Easterwood, Teagan Simmons, Katie Murray, NeNe Green, TreTre Cooper and Coleman Kirby will compete at State.
